From the Chicago Tribune April 23, 2008:
“I hear the demand for a general apology in the context of the media chorus as a howling mob with an impossibly broad demand, and on top of that I’m not sure what exactly I’m supposed to apologize for,” he wrote. “The ’68 Convention? The Days of Rage? The Pentagon? Every one of these can be unpacked and found to be a complicated mix of good and bad choices, noble and low motives.”
From Bill Ayers blog:
Capitalism played its role historically and is exhausted as a force for progress: built on exploitation, theft, conquest, war, and racism, capitalism and imperialism must be defeated and a world revolution—a revolution against war and racism and materialism, a revolution based on human solidarity and love, cooperation and the common good—must win.

Read this report on seriously flawed work being used to influence State governments to make global warming taxes a reality.
The MCMAP report fails to perform the most basic task of any cost-benefit analysis – quantifying both the costs and benefits in monetary terms so that they can be directly compared. It also finds net economic savings from many policies intended to reduce greenhouse gasses, even without counting the value of those reduced emissions.
An examination of the cost-benefit analysis for four sample policy recommendations found the analysis to be seriously flawed. Despite the MCMAP claim that these four programs have a net benefit of more than $2.8 billion, we can find no sound scientific basis for their claim. MCMAP’s cost savings estimates are not just wildly optimistic; they are the product of a purely fictitious analysis. MCMAP’s cost (savings) estimates of other mitigation options suffer from similar problems causing their estimate of a $726 million cost to their overall package to grossly understate the true costs.

When Obama gave his monumental race speech, it left me wondering is Obama for reparations?
It is not enough to give health care to the sick, or jobs to the jobless, or education to our children. But it is where we start. It is where our union grows stronger.
An article on the AIM web site states:
In 2001, Obama’s Trinity United Church of Christ passed a resolution declaring that:
- “WHEREAS: The institution of Slavery is internationally recognized as crime for which there is no statute of limitations, AND
- WHEREAS: Uncompensated labor was demanded from enslaved Africans and their descendants for more than two centuries on U.S. soil; AND
- WHEREAS: The principle that reparations is the appropriate remedy whenever government unjustly abrogates the rights of a domestic group or foreign people whose rights such government is obligated to protect or uphold has been internationally recognized…”
Another interesting fact is that:
The Chicago City Council had become the fourth major city to pass a resolution calling for reparations.

Since high oil prices are on everyone’s mind. I decided to rerun this post which originally posted April 17, 2008.
I heard an Obama commercial today, and it said he was going to “enact a penalty on windfall profits” for oil companies. Ok, now doesn’t this sound communistic? The government is going to take your profits if your business does well. If this is enacted, then the oil companies are likely to move their headquarters to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This is what happened with Halliburton, when Congress voted to make it virtually impossible to drill in the Gulf of Mexico. Read article about Halliburton headquarters moving out of the US.
The reality is the gas prices are based on supply and demand and the price of the dollar. This is basic economics. Of course OPEC has a determination on the price also. The government has tied the oil companies hands in being able to drill and refine oil in the US. If the US would allow for the free market exploration, drilling, and refining of oil and gas, prices would be low. We should let the free market set the price, not the government.
See the articles below to read more about the huge oil find 2 years ago in the Gulf of Mexico that Congress voted against.

Now there is a huge oil find in North Dakota.

From Nora Ephron’s article on the Pennsylvania primary:
This is an election about whether the people of Pennsylvania hate blacks more than they hate women. And when I say people, I don’t mean people, I mean white men.

I found a very interesting congressional hearing transcript that explains how Reagan brought down the Soviet Union (p.11, paragraph 5). It goes on to explain how this same model can be used to bring down al-Qaeda (p.14, paragraph 5).
