McCain on $4 gallon gas - Drill !!!

Posted by rightwinger on June 18, 2008

Go, go, go!!!! We need oil and gas now. I’m all for renewable sources of energy, but we need oil now. Even if we find the next best oil replacement, it will takes decades to get it to the consumer.

Whoever controls oil controls much more than oil. And in our time, much of the world’s oil supply is controlled by states, regimes, and a cartel for which America’s well being is not exactly a priority. Many occupy a violent part of the world — a region all the more violent for the influence of oil wealth. Their opinion of America runs the full spectrum from indifference to hatred. And yet these regimes are today the masters of the oil market.

Somehow the United States — in so many ways the most self-reliant of nations — has allowed and at times even encouraged this state of affairs. This was a troubling situation 35 years ago. It was an alarming situation twenty years ago. It is a dangerous situation today. And starting in the term of the next president, we must take control over our own energy future, and become once again the master of our fate.

Energy policy has enormous implications for America’s economic security, our environmental security, and, above all, our national security. Each one of these challenges demands our concentrated consideration. And each one requires that we look beyond the special interests that too often dominate energy policy. We need to draw on the best ideas of both parties, and work together for the common good.

As in other challenges that confront our nation, we must shape events, and not simply manage crises. We must steer far clear of the errors and false assumptions that have marked the energy policies of nearly twenty Congresses and seven presidents. There are dangers in the long term and dangers in the short term. Some tasks will be the work of decades, and some the work of years. And they all will begin in the term of the next president.

But to make the great turn away from carbon-emitting fuels, we will need all the inventive genius of which America is capable. We will need as well an economy strong enough to support our nation’s great shift toward clean energy. And this gives us only further incentive to protect ourselves from the sudden shocks and ever-rising prices that come with our dependence on foreign oil.

Up to a point, these sudden rises in the price of oil are explainable in the terms of basic economics. When demand exceeds supply, prices always rise, and this has happened very dramatically in the demand for oil. Two powerful forces in the oil market today are China and India, nations in which a third of humanity is suddenly entering the industrial era — with all the cars, construction, and consumption of oil that involves.

It takes a very short leap in logic to wonder why we produce less and less crude oil, while we use more and more of it, or why politicians talk so much about promoting alternative energy sources, but often do so little to promote these alternatives. A reasonable observer, presented only with these numbers of consumption and production, might draw the conclusion that America has accepted this fate because we have no choice in the matter, or because we have no resources of our own. But just the opposite is true: We do have resources, and we do have a choice.

In oil, gas, and coal deposits, we have enormous energy reserves of our own. And we are gaining the means to use these resources in cleaner, more responsible ways. As for offshore drilling, it’s safe enough these days that not even Hurricanes Katrina and Rita could cause significant spillage from the battered rigs off the coasts of New Orleans and Houston. Yet for reasons that become less convincing with every rise in the price of foreign oil, the federal government discourages offshore production.

At the very least, one might assume, America had surely been building new refineries to achieve a more efficient delivery of gasoline to market, and thereby to lower the prices paid by the American people — especially in the summer season. But the policymakers in Washington haven’t got around to that, either. There’s so much regulation of the industry that the last American refinery was built when Jerry Ford was president.

Bug that excretes oil as waste

Posted by rightwinger on June 16, 2008

Possible new oil source: bug waste. The interesting thing to me is why is the UK writing about this and not the LA Times?  Who has come up with this, the government or is it innovation via capitalism?

He means bugs. To be more precise: the genetic alteration of bugs – very, very small ones – so that when they feed on agricultural waste such as woodchips or wheat straw, they do something extraordinary. They excrete crude oil.

Gouging at the Pump???

Posted by rightwinger on June 13, 2008

What was that about gouging at the pump? ExxonMobil is going to sell off all of its retail gas stations. Why? Because they are not profitable.

Oil giant Exxon Mobil Corp. plans to sell its company-owned gas stations, saying they aren’t profitable enough even with gasoline selling at $4 per gallon.

Dems to blame for High Gas Prices

Posted by rightwinger on June 12, 2008

I received this in an e-mail from a friend and I agree with it 100%.

Gas at $4.00 a gallon. Who’s to blame?

Thanks to the enivironmentalist lobby and its influence on Democratic legislators in Congress, the U.S. has, for decades, been prohibited from drilling for oil in places that we know contain billions of barrels of proven reserves.

Check out this map:

All of the ‘NO’ zones are places where the U.S. , thanks to the Democratic Party, is prohibited from drilling for oil.

But wait . it gets better.

*** China, Cuba, Canada and others continue to drill off our shores where US companies are not allowed to drill because of Democratic policies!

http://bp2.blogger.com/_L6pDyjqqsvY/SBfoVYWcIyI/AAAAAAAANQM/sbwHkEqH6d0/s1600-h/china+drilling.jpg

Yes, that’s right . China and Cuba are actively exploring oil fields 50 miles from Key West, Florida while U.S. companies are barred from working in this area because of U.S. policy . So, instead of allowing the most environmentally responsible companies to operate there and increase our domestic supply, China, who has a dismal environmental record, is preparing to suck our close, lucrative oil reserves dry.

Unbelievable.

Investor’s Business Daily recently explained how irresponsible the Democrats have been on the energy crisis. They lay into what they consider to be the worst Congress ever for …

~ Failing to allow drilling in ANWR. We have, as President Bush noted, estimated capacity of a million barrels of oil a day from this source alone — enough for 27 million gallons of gas and diesel. But Congress won’t touch it, fearful of the clout of the environmental lobby. As a result, you pay through the nose at the pump so your representative can raise campaign cash.

~ Refusing to build new refineries. The U.S. hasn’t built one since 1976, yet the EPA requires at least 15 unique ’boutique’ fuel blends that can be sold in different areas around the nation. This means that U.S. refinery capacity is stretched so tight that even the slightest problem at a refinery causes enormous supply problems and price spikes. Congress has done nothing about this.

~ Turning its back on nuclear power. It’s safe and, with advances in nuclear reprocessing technology, waste problems have been minimized. Still, we have just 104 nuclear plants — the same as a decade ago — producing just 19% of our total energy. (Many European nations produce 40% or more of their power with nuclear.) Granted, nuclear power plants are expensive — about $3 billion each. But they produce energy at $1.72/kilowatt-hour vs. $2.37 for coal and $6.35 for natural gas.

~ Raising taxes on energy producers. This is where a basic understanding of economics would help: Higher taxes and needless regulation lead to less production of a commodity. So by proposing ‘windfall’ and other taxes on energy companies plus tough new rules, Congress only makes our energy situation worse.

These are just a few of Congress’ sins of omission — all while India , China , Eastern Europe and the Middle East are adding more than a million barrels of new demand each and every year. New Energy Department forecasts see world oil demand growing 40% by 2030, including a 28% increase in the U.S.

Americans who are worried about the direction of their country, including runaway energy and food prices, should keep in mind the upcoming election isn’t just about choosing a new president. We’ll also pick a new Congress.

If you agree with the need to let the American people know who’s REALLY responsible for the sky-high gasoline prices we’re seeing today, please forward this e-mail to everyone you know.

If we elect a liberal Democrat as president in the Fall and keep the same Democrat-controlled Congress, nothing will change .. except gasoline prices, which will keep going up.

Maxine Waters threatens to nationalize America’s oil industry

Posted by rightwinger on May 29, 2008

Stupidity at its best. Maxine Waters wants to nationalize the oil companies. This is what the Dems really want. The government can’t balance its budget, but it thinks it can run the oil companies. Sure Maxine, whatever.

What??? Sounds like Communism to me

Posted by rightwinger on May 21, 2008

What’s next how many kids you have??? Who is Obama to tell me I can’t drive an SUV or eat what I want. Instead of drilling in North Dakota, he wants to tell us what temperature I can set my A/C on. I’ve got an idea. Why doesn’t Obama move to Russia and run for president there!!!

Oil Independence Voted Down by Dems Again!!!

Posted by rightwinger on May 19, 2008

What!!!??? The Dems vote down drilling again while Americans are hurting and losing jobs!!! I guess they see it as a plus. See how evil Bush is, and he doesn’t care. Give me a break. I want clean air and water as much as the next person. I recycle. I don’t drive an SUV. If hybrids come down in price enough, I’ll buy one. We need oil until the next new energy breakthrough comes about. We need oil now and for the next 50 years. We should drill in America and help ourselves and not the Middle East.

Liberal political leaders, including two who happen to be running for President, constantly claim to seek American oil independence. Invariably, however, they turn around and thwart measures to achieve precisely that.

This week, a bill introduced by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R – Kentucky) once again illustrated liberals’ duplicity on this subject.

Senator McConnell, along with twenty other Republican Senators, had introduced the Domestic Energy Production Act, which sought to allow domestic oil exploration and production in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) and the deepwater Outer Continental Shelf (OCS). This would result in production of more barrels of oil here at home, creating well-paying American jobs in the process, as opposed to further increasing dependence upon oft-hostile foreign sources.

Unfortunately, the liberals who now dominate the Senate defeated this prudent measure, and once again said “no” to greater American oil independence.

Big Oil

Posted by rightwinger on May 13, 2008

Cal Thomas’ article on Big Oil doesn’t even address the huge oil find in South Dakota, North Dakota, and Canada recently found. Maybe once our standard of living goes down in the US because of high oil prices, we’ll take back our country from the environmentalists.

Robertson said there would be plenty of oil available to the United States if the oil companies were allowed to get it: “Eighty-five percent of offshore oil is off-limits.” Responding to objections to offshore drilling by environmentalists and their allies in Congress, Robertson noted that some of the strongest pro-environment nations in Europe — he mentions Denmark, Norway, the United Kingdom — lease offshore locations for oil exploration. The technology has become so good, he said, that during Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, “one thousand offshore wells were destroyed (in the Gulf of Mexico), but not one leaked.” Australia, he said, has allowed offshore drilling for 40 years without any environmental damage.

According to government estimates, there is enough oil in areas accessible to America — 112 billion barrels — to power more than 60 million cars for 60 years. The Outer Continental Shelf alone contains an estimated 86 billion barrels of oil and 420 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. Had President Clinton not vetoed exploration in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) in 1995, when oil was $19 a barrel, America would currently be receiving more than 1 million barrels a day domestically, all of it taken by better technology than existed more than 30 years ago. That was when the Alaskan pipeline was built despite protests from environmentalists who claimed it would destroy the caribou. It didn’t, but the environmentalists are back with the same discredited arguments. Because most of the oil remains “off-limits,” we are becoming more dependent on foreign oil.

No, we can’t “drill our way out” of our addiction to oil, but we can make the transition to other energy sources easier while lessening our dependence on foreign oil and propping up dictators who use our money to subsidize terrorists. A slow transition will also give us time to consider more fuel-efficient cars and greater use of public transportation, even bicycles for short trips. Bikes would help more of us lose weight and get in shape. A friend bikes to work every day, saving gas, car payments, insurance and repair costs.

Roots of “Windfall Profits Penalty” On Oil Companies

Posted by rightwinger on May 6, 2008

I’ve addressed this previously. See the Hillary Part 1 Oreilly interview post below. What is really interesting is where this windfall profits idea came from - The Carter Administration. Historian says “Its hard to imagine this is a good idea

Oreilly interviews Hillary part 1

Posted by rightwinger on May 1, 2008

Hillary wants to take oil company profits!!! This is communistic. The record oil profits are actually 9%. I’ve talked about this before, but since many politicians don’t seem to know about basic economics and the free market, I’m posting it again. The uneducated masses are like yea without thinking this through.

If the government sets a precedence of taking oil profits, what’s next the pharmaceuticals industry? This would be a disaster for the US economy.

The government is going to take your profits if your business does well? If this is enacted, then the oil companies are likely to move their headquarters to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This is what happened with Haliburton. When Congress voted to make it virtually impossible to drill in the Gulf of Mexico, Haliburton moved their headquarters to the UAE. Read article about Halliburton headquarters moving out of the US.

The reality is the gas prices are based on supply and demand and the price of the dollar. This is basic economics. Of course OPEC has a determination on the price also, but their control has lessened as more oil has been found outside of the Middle East. The government has tied the oil companies hands in being able to drill and refine oil in the US. If the US would allow for the free market exploration, drilling, and refining of oil and gas, prices would be low. We should let the free market set the price, not the government. Wake up America and stop letting the left control our economy.

See the articles below to read more about the huge oil find 2 years ago in the Gulf of Mexico that Congress voted against.

Read the article about the huge oil find in the Gulf of Mexico.

Read about how Congress blocked drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.

Now there is a huge oil find in North Dakota. Did Hillary even mention the North Dakota oil find? No, because she’s against drilling.

Read about the huge oil find in North Dakota.

What will Congress do with this one?

Hillary’s voting record:

  • ANWR Oil Drilling Amendment - To prevent consideration of drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in a fast-track budget reconciliation bill. 3/19/2003 Vote: Yes
  • Offshore Drilling in Virginia - Vote to pass an amendment that would allow the Governor of the state of Virginia to petition the Secretary of the Interior to allow for natural gas exploration and extraction at least fifty miles from the coastal zone. 6/14/2007 Vote: did not vote
